The build

Is the Galvbike a Dirt Bike?

Fair question. It looks the part, but it is built to work, not just play. Here is the straight answer.

The Galvbike electric dirt bike

The short version

Yes. The Galvbike is an electric dirt bike in every practical sense: a two-wheel, off-road bike with real suspension, ground clearance and off-road tyres. The difference is it is built to work, with a 200 kg cargo deck, a galvanised frame, and a three year warranty.

"Dirt bike" usually means a light bike for blasting around a track or a trail. By that picture, people are not sure where the Galvbike sits.

So let us answer it plainly, then explain the difference that matters.

What makes a bike a dirt bike

An off-road bike with proper suspension, ground clearance and tyres that do not need a road. The Galvbike has telescopic forks with 170 mm of travel, twin rear shocks with 160 mm, 268 mm of ground clearance and off-road tyres. By build, it is an off-road dirt bike. Full numbers are on the specs page.

The difference: built to work, not play

A Sur-Ron or Talaria is a light recreation dirt bike: quick, fun, and built to be ridden and put away clean. The Galvbike trades outright speed for the things a working bike needs: a 200 kg cargo deck, a hot-dip galvanised frame that lives outside, and a three year warranty. It is the dirt bike you can actually put to work. More on that in the electric dirt bike that works for a living.

Electric, so almost nothing to service

Because it is electric with a direct-drive hub motor, there is no chain, clutch, gearbox or engine oil. A charge is about a dollar and the service list is brakes, tyres and a bit of grease. That is a long way from a highly-strung performance dirt bike. The numbers are in what it costs to run.

So, dirt bike or farm bike?

Both, and that is the point. It is an electric dirt bike built for farm and off-road work. Whatever you call it, it is the same machine underneath: tough, carries a load, and cheap to run. How it carries is covered in the off-road cargo bike.

Commonly asked

Is the Galvbike a dirt bike?

Yes, it is an electric off-road dirt bike: two wheels, real suspension, ground clearance and off-road tyres. What sets it apart from a recreation dirt bike is that it is built to work, with a 200 kg deck, a galvanised frame and a three year warranty.

How is it different from a Sur-Ron or Talaria?

Those are light recreation dirt bikes, quick and fun but with little payload and not built to live outside. The Galvbike carries a real load, is galvanised for daily use, and is covered for three years.

Can I ride it on trails as well as the farm?

Yes. It has the suspension, clearance and tyres for off-road riding. It is simply built tougher and to carry, so it doubles as a working bike.
